'You Couldn't Make It Up': BBC Question Time Blasted Over Age Of Panel For Debate About Young People

BBC Question Time has been criticised for choosing a panel with an average age of 48 to debate issues affecting young people.

The broadcaster said last night’s programme was focused “on growing up in the 21st century”.

But critics quickly pointed out that only one person on the panel, YouTuber Tommyinnit, was actually born after the turn of the millennium.

The other panellists were Adolescence writer Jack Thorne, 46, headteacher Katharine Birbalsingh, 52, science secretary Peter Kyle, 54, and former Tory minister David Willetts, who is 69.

Social media users were quick to point out the bizarre choice of panellists.

LBC presenter Ben Kentish posted on X: “You really couldn’t make it up. Question Time is now doing a whole show on what it’s like growing up in Britain today….with a panel that includes only one person under the age of 45.

“The average age of the panellists debating what it’s like being young in Britain today? 48. Farcical.”

Former Tory MP Dehenna Davison, who was just 26 when she was elected in 2019, said: “You could, you know, ask a panel who grew up in the 21st century what they think?”
